The Erie Reader Book Club's March meeting at Werner Books and Coffee will be to discuss Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain in correspondence with the Food issue.

SUNDAY, MAR. 30

This month, the Erie Reader Book Club has selected Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain to discuss at their March meeting which corresponds with our Food issue.

Many of you may know, love, and miss Bourdain from his incredible travel show, No Reservations. With Kitchen Confidential, readers get a glimpse of Bourdain's early days in the restaurant industry – learning about his childhood, food memories, early kitchen experiences, and the (often traumatic) experience of working in a chaotic restaurant kitchen. The book is raunchy, enlightening, and charming, with Bourdain's classic snark, his unique brand of down-to-earth pretension.

In addition to learning more about the author, he delves into the seedy underbelly of restaurant work – the tenuous threads that hold it all together, an inside look at shortcuts, and some dos and don'ts based on his experiences (ie. never NEVER order fish on a Monday). Readers will be entertained, informed, grossed out, and hopefully, gain a new appreciation for the hard work that goes into that plate before you.

The Erie Reader Book Club will meet the last Sunday in March at Werner Books and Coffee. It is free and open for anyone who would like to join and there is no commitment to attend other meetings. We hope to see you there as we discuss our own experiences of restaurant work, our impressions of the author, and what we learned in reading the memoir.
