For more than five decades, the live televised WQLN Auction has been a treasured tradition across our region — bringing neighbors together through excitement, generosity, laughter, and those unforgettable Q-light specials. It has been a celebration of community spirit, all in support of the programs and services that WQLN provides.
This year, WQLN is turning the page to an exciting new chapter.
"We are moving from a live, televised Auction to a fully online format," said Alyson Amendola, Vice President. "The Auction has meant so much to so many — including our staff, but over the past few years, we have experienced significant staffing reductions and fewer available hours to produce a large-scale live event. We also rely on aging software that no longer meets our needs. It became clear that evolving our format is the most responsible way to sustain our largest fundraiser and position it for the future. While the format is changing, the heart of the Auction remains the same."
President & CEO Cindy Spizarny emphasized that the decision was made thoughtfully and with the community in mind. "This was not an easy choice. The live Auction holds a special place in many hearts. After careful consideration, we made the decision that ensures the long-term strength of WQLN. We are truly excited about what this new format has to offer. Supporters will still find the same fantastic items they've come to expect — and now they can browse and bid wherever they are, whenever it's convenient."
The 10-day online Auction, from May 7 to 16, will make participation easier than ever, welcoming longtime bidders while opening the door for new supporters to join in the fun.
For more than 60 years, WQLN has served as a community treasure — providing trusted news and information, educational programming for children, diverse music, inspiring local productions, and cultural experiences that connect us all. The Auction remains a vital part of sustaining that mission.
"As we begin this new chapter, we invite the community to embrace this evolution with us," Spizarny added. "The generosity, enthusiasm, and support for public media that have defined the Auction for decades will continue to power everything we do. Together, we can make this new online experience just as vibrant and impactful."
The 2026 WQLN Online Auction will take place from May 7 to 16, 2026.
