The Film Industry: An Economic Opportunity For Northwest Pennsylvania

Friday, May 8, 2026 from 4 PM to 5:30 PM

Speaker: Patrick Miller, B.A., Jason B. McCann, Jessica Taylor, B.A., and Amy Murdock, M.B.A. Film Erie has partnered with r.plan to conduct a new economic impact analysis examining the role and potential of the film and media industry in Northwest Pennsylvania. Using regional economic modeling and industry data, the report evaluates how film production contributes to employment, business activity, and broader economic output across the region. The analysis explores how strategic investment in film infrastructure, workforce development, and regional coordination could position Northwest Pennsylvania to attract additional productions and strengthen its growing film economy. It also highlights the ways film production spending supports a wide range of local industries - from hospitality and construction to professional services and transportation. This presentation will share key findings from the report and discuss the region's competitive advantages and future opportunities. The full report will also be published and made publicly available following the event. Presenters will include members of the Film Erie Board of Directors - Patrick Miller, Jason B. McCann, and Jessica Taylor - along with Amy Murdock of r.plan, who led the economic impact analysis. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to continue the conversation at an informal film industry networking gathering at Lavery Brewing Company. This casual meet-up is open to anyone attending the event, as well as others interested in connecting with local filmmakers, industry professionals, and community partners. It's an opportunity to build relationships, share ideas, and further explore the role of film in Northwest Pennsylvania's future. JES Community Conversations are sponsored by the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority. Location: Jefferson Educational Society - 3207 State St. Erie, PA 16508 Date/Time: Friday, May 8th, 12:00-1:30PM Admission: Free (optional $5 lunch)
